How to pack for the holidays

We are only just over Christmas break and the Huz and I are dreaming of a holiday. I have a few ‘dream destinations’ on my list like Copenhagen, New Zealand, Portugal and Italy.

Planning is vital to a fabulous trip, especially if you’re spending hard earned dollars and lots of them. Aside from the destination, accommodation, flights, tours, eating out etc one thing you can plan that will make your holiday easier (and more enjoyable) is your holiday wardrobe.

Ladies, it’s not rocket science. A few simple guidelines to follow can help, so here’s some of my top tips for a travel wardrobe.

1. KEEP IT SIMPLE

I used to be an over packer, always packing that bit extra ‘just in case’.
The truth is, now I have learned to travel light I much prefer to travel just with carry on luggage if I can.
Less bags, less clutter, and less choices make it easier to get dressed.

2. RE-WEAR ITEMS

Most accommodation will offer clothes washing facilities. A few years ago I indulged in a hotel clothes cleaning service, and now I am hooked! It means I can actually travel with less as I can re-wear items and not feel like a stinky/sweaty mess.

3. KEEP YOUR COLOUR PALETTE TIGHT AND INTERCHANGEABLE

Now this is a big one ladies. I bet you have all stood in front of your wardrobe at some stage and felt overwhelmed by the choices in front of you. My tip is to keep your colour palette tight, look at base pieces in neutrals and then add all other pieces in 3 colours that all work well together. The new Italia Mi Amore range is perfect for this, check it out.

4. LAYER LIKE A PLAYER.

Gone are the days when we have a dedicated Summer or Winter wardrobe, you really should be able to wear 70% of your wardrobe all year around just by layering. Take a look at the Basics range from Taking Shape, you are sure to find what you need.

5. LET YOUR ACCESSORIES DO THE HARD WORK

Accessories can really add (some of your) personality to an outfit and a little bit of bling can take an outfit from ‘beach to bar’ or ‘day to night’. Pack a few key pieces that will work with all your clothing choices and you will instantly feel pulled together! Check out these accessories!

6. PACK A TRAVEL STEAMER

A travel steamer is a must! They are the size of a hairdryer and make travelling sooo much better. There is nothing more frustrating than wrangling hotel ironing boards (if they even supply one) and looking creased and dishevelled just makes me feel…dishevelled. You can pick up a travel steamer at most electrical or department stores and they won’t break the bank.

7. PACK TO ACCOMMODATE PLANNED ACTIVITIES

If you are holidaying then pack clothing to suit the destination and planned activities. Fancy sitting poolside and reading all week? Then kaftans, a few cossies and slides are what you will need. Cruising? You might need to amp it up and pack something a little extra special for the ‘Captains Dinner’. You’re sure to find something in the Italian Affair range.
